Community Project Overview

Suggested Times : Spring or Summer Break or any Saturday

Target community to benefit: Socially disadvantaged youth (ages 12-18)

Project Description: After a 60 minute virtual training session you will have a customized workshop guide that will allow you to be able to present a free 1 day workshop for approximately 25 teens to discover and express one of their passions as a catalyst for their future. Provide teens with goal setting and decision making tools for positive choices. Host a small panel of community leaders to hear the teens express themselves. Repeat the project and offer it to many other community organizations to present on their own as often as needed.

Possible Outcomes: Freshly inspired group of teens and engaged community leaders.

Current Situation
Teens that are socially disadvantaged due to family economics, homelessness, foster care, or children’s homes are often disregarded by society. They are often viewed as delinquent or not likely to contribute anything significant to society. They are often considered lucky to achieve mediocrity, blessed to achieve productive citizenship, and a miracle to escape jail, drugs or teen pregnancy. Society expects nothing from them and this becomes a sad self-fulfilling prophecy where the teens often do not value themselves.

Probable future
If nothing changes and no one intervenes, more of these teens will be lost in the chaos of this cycle and our social system will have failed them and their families. We will have failed by not nurturing the talents and passions present in this extraordinary group of citizens.
